25October 16, 2012 at 6:58 pm7c5I won’t be getting Borderlands 2. There’s a very slpmie reason for this. In fact there are a few but the main one is this About 20 minutes into playing the first Borderlands online some guy joined my game and gave me an awesome shield, it was pretty much indestructible and shouldn’t have existed, it definitely shouldn’t have been available to a newbie. I don’t remember the stats but needless to say that no enemy was a threat, it essentially put me in God Mode. Cool, you’d think, but it took the jeopardy and therefore the fun out of the game. This guy then also proceeded to bash his way through all the objectives that I was yet to experience, denying me any kind of challenge. So why didn’t I just dump the shield and leave the game to struggle on as if this hadn’t happened? Well would you? Really? Well the realisation that Borderlands was just stats and busy work just burst the bubble for me. I couldn’t bring myself to play it any more. This kind of game engine was used for Dead Island, which I played for a while but it reminded me so much of my experience with Borderlands that it got boring quick. Just to be sure I played it offline so that at least I’d get to see the story unfold before some ranked up ubergeek came in and spoiled my fun. I got about 60% of the way through the main story and realised I had very little incentive to continue.I can’t get into this style of game after that experience. I’d rather have weapons with stats balanced by game designers rather than clever algorithms just in case this experience is repeated. I’d like to have a fair comparison between me and my friends, if there’s too many random or seemingly random factors in the mix it stops becoming a game of skill and becomes a game of chance.Borderlands 2 may improve on it’s previous incarnation but ultimately I don’t like the engine that drives it.ce
